eyevilin is a candy designed by Chara Marantidou, inspired by the little eye-shaped amulets that protect against the evil eye.
In its first appearance, the candy was part of Chara Marantidou‘s art installation placebo, presented alongside works by other artists at the opening of the E. Morfopoulou pharmacy.

The candy was packed in blister packs, accompanied by instructions for use modelled on the printed leaflet that comes with a medicine.
Marantidou placed the candies on a display counter and presented them as the new medicine for the evil eye, handing out single-blister packs free of charge.
The public’s response was very positive, whether people saw it as a humorous take on superstition and the evil eye, or believed in it and hoped for its properties.
People who take the evil eye seriously saw it as a wonderful solution to their problem and wanted to be sure it really works because, as some of them said, the evil-eye beads they wear around the neck or as bracelets do nothing!

After the art project placebo came to an end, Chara Marantidou developed the candy into an edible good-luck charm.
She has created a single-candy package, which comes with a small slip of paper bearing a lucky word.

The fortune candies come with a great many of these little words, which lift your mood. After all, we all function even better with a little placebo!
Chara Marantidou graduated from the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2000 and from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2007.
